At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Describe current trends in the illicit drug supply relevant to ED presentations, including alpha-2 agonist adulterants, “tusi/pink cocaine,” and ultra-potent synthetic opioids.
- Recall common and emerging toxidromes using key historical and exam findings.
- Summarize evidence-informed strategies to manage intoxication and withdrawal related to emerging drugs of misuse.
- Recognize and initiate management of xylazine-associated skin and soft tissue injury.
- Identify potential complications related to opioid reversal and withdrawal physiology and outline monitoring and mitigation strategies.
