Learning Objectives
Objectives:
· State the national wholesalers’ obligations to cooperate with the Drug Enforcement Administration (“DEA”) regarding the wholesaler’s oversight of their respective pharmacy clients-controlled substance purchases as a result of a recent federal court settlement regarding the national Opioid crisis.
· Describe a pharmacist’s corresponding responsibility regarding the dispensing of controlled drugs, and that such prescribing practitioners should acknowledge such shared responsibility.
· Recognize the significant financial penalties that the national wholesalers have agreed to pay to the federal government as a result of their prior lax enforcement of their respective pharmacy clients purchase patterns.
· State their personal financial and professional responsibility as a pharmacist registrant to the DEA regarding record keeping violations and related lax due diligence policies if so, found by the DEA.
· State the meaning of the national wholesaler’s responsibility to report suspicious orders of controlled substances electronically to the DEA under the SUSPICIOUS ORDER REPORTING SYSTEM (SORS)
