At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
Describe recent change to New York State law allowing for pharmacists to administer certain long-acting injectable (LAI) medications
Recognize key clinical features of disease states managed with LAI antipsychotics and of substance use disorders
Review dosing frequency, storage requirements, and preparation for administration of LAI medications
Discuss administration of LAI medications via intramuscular and subcutaneous injection
Identify injection-related adverse effects and management strategies

Kristin Waters is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. She attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and completed her PGY-1 pharmacy residency at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, NY. She then completed a PGY-2 residency in psychiatry at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. She primarily teaches the psychiatry module at UConn and her practice site is at Yale New Haven Hospital on two inpatient psychiatric units. She co-developed a long-acting injectable certificate program through UConn which provides 8 hours of training for pharmacists in Connecticut who wish to administer long-acting injectable medications.
