Learning Objectives
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
Define common pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics terminology for IV antibiotics.
Review mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics targets, and monitoring parameters for commonly used IV beta-lactams, such as cefepime, meropenem and piperacillin-tazobactam.
Examine the role of prolonged-infusion beta-lactams in critically ill patients.
Discuss the role of therapeutic drug monitoring in patients receiving IV beta-lactam therapy.
Dr. Natasha Bhutani is a current PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident at The Brooklyn Hospital Center. Dr. Bhutani obtained her PharmD from Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Wayne State University. Prior to attending pharmacy school, Dr. Bhutani obtained a master’s degree in biological sciences from Oakland University and a bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. She has committed to complete her PGY-2 residency in Infectious Disease Pharmacy at The Brooklyn Hospital Center.
