  1. Summarize the recommendations for the use of influenza vaccine for the 2024-2025 Influenza season.
  2. Describe the differences between the newly approved mRNA RSV vaccine and RSV vaccines previously approved for use.
  3. Explain the newly updated recommendations for the use of COVID vaccines and boosters in the United States.
  4. Discuss how the new conjugated 21-valent pneumococcal vaccine differs from the existing conjugate vaccines and review the recommendations for its use.
  5. Provide examples of how pharmacists can assist patients in overcoming vaccine reluctance.

Dr. Etzel is a double alumnus of St. John's University having earned his undergraduate degree in 1988 and Doctor of Pharmacy Degree in 1990. Following his graduate studies, he completed a residency focusing on infectious diseases and pharmacokinetics at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York. He joined the faculty of the College of Pharmacy & Allied Health Professions in 1991 as a clinical faculty practitioner in the areas of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. In 2001, he joined the Office of the Dean as Assistant Dean for Pharmacy Student Affairs.
